Best Time to visit Ngorongoro

  • June to October: The Best Time for Views and Animal Sightings

The Ngorongoro Crater is best to visit during the dry season which is from June to October. During this period, the rainfall is minimal and animals congregate around the water bodies, like the lakes and swamps in the crater, making wildlife spotting easier. The skies being clear, along with the sparse vegetation, enhances visibility. The cooler temperatures during this season also aid in comfortable game drives. This season is the best for capturing the crater and its wildlife.

  • January to February: Increased Wildlife and Unbelievably Fresh Scenery

The crater is particularly breathtaking and its wildlife is striking against the rich backdrop of new foliage during the brief rainy season in January to February. The calving season also occurs during this period, which is when lions, wildebeests, and zebras interact dynamically and predators are plentiful. This time, even with the tourist rush, more exploration and intimacy with nature become possible, even with the light authentic tropical rain showers.

  • November To May: Watch Birds And Avoid The Crowds

During the wet season, from November to May, the crater becomes a verdant paradise ideal for birdwatching as new species migrate to the area. More than 500 bird species, including flamingos, can be found on Lake Magadi. During this period, lodges also experience lower visitor numbers and reduced prices which is perfect for a quieter safari. However, some rain is to be expected.
